There's a great deal of legislation put in place by Blair/Brown that needs picking apart. Much of it was designed to be deliberately difficult to repeal. At some point a showdown with the EU and especially the ROI is inevitable.
As a Brit residing in Ireland the 'open border' unfortunately works both ways. Allegedly a lot of the asylum applicants here come across the NI border and the politicians here are as much in denial about it ("we don't have an 'open border' - don't be silly" - despite maintaining that being exactly what they got worked up about over the GFA in the Brexit negotiations).
BTW do you know one of your comment[er]s is hidden? That'll be the new Substack AI policing the comments.
While violence is the expected and unfortunately a natural reaction to these barbaric murderous incidents they always play to a government's strengths eventually albeit our forces of law and order are so depleted and woke they are about as much use as a trap door in a canoe but they are still ones with the weapons.
However the long term PEACEFUL solution is MASS non compliance following the principles of Gene Sharp. The people need to make themselves ungovernable with MASS peaceful protests.
I encourage you all to buy Gene Sharp's little book 'From Dictatorship to Democracy' and spread the word.
Why rush to shut down Turkish barbers? They've done their job nicely. Ignore the issue until it gets too big, then busily enact new regulations for small businesses related to digital ID compliance. It's like a Homer Simpson skit, ‘Beer, the cause of and the solution to all of life's problems,’ substitute ‘government’ for beer. As a pal says, ‘They're not stupid, they're evil and wicked’.
Police presence has always been very visible and sentencing is pretty harsh. Cultural factors also play a role. My bet is that if u had come to HK then, u would still be here :)
Pithy and to the point. Thank you Pete.
Agreed. That may be the most polite response I have read

And as I read this the usual fake lib suspects are blaming social media.
That's right, the problem is not the butchering of British folk, it's that other brits get to see it or hear about it which is the problem.
That's right dear, just chuck a jar of petrol onto the flames, I'm sure it'll all be right in the end.

What a mess.

I live in a big city called Hong Kong. It’s blissfully safe.
Before and after we handed it over to China or mainly now with a powerful Chinese police force that stands for NO nonsense?
Both. Been here for 25 years and it’s always been very safe.
And your reason for this is ............?
Why HK is safe or my reason for living here?
Why in such a crowded city it is so safe -BTW which I'm sure you are right about.
Funnily enough I missed out on two years in HK with my regiment between 78-80 as I opted for an exchange posting to Canada based in Calgary Alberta.
