While Reform is in full denial mode, there is no getting past the fact that their most senior officials and the party leader conspired to subvert the rules on party donations.
Very amusing, for all the wrong reasons, to see an Oxbridge professor of ethics, and I'm assuming, (possibly unfairly - sorry ) that as an individual he is very pleased with himself, falling into such august company then being undone in such a spectacular way. Clearly not as clever as he thought he was. I'm sure he will disappear and find a profitable perch in the USA, leaving Farage to grift on blighting the political landscape and filling his saddlebags with more dough as he goes. If only Terry Thomas, Kenneth Willams, Charles Haughtry and co were around to make a film of it all.
Right to feel cheesed off. You’d think people in politics would know how the system works. This is like a sailor not knowing the sea is wet. How can Reform be so sloppy as to give its opponents ammunition to use against it? And James Orr was meant to be the intellectual heavyweight who would help bring serious policies into the agenda. Yes, the party needs its cash but how can it be taken seriously if it leaves its own goals undefended? Millions of people were prepared to give the benefit of the doubt and thought Reform would be a credible party of reform.
This was entirely predictable and stupid and vindicates everything you've said about the party over the last few months.
I feel sorry for decent Reform activists and candidates who must be feeling pretty shell-shocked atm. Reform were never going to be the answer, unfortunately. At least we'll be spared the grim spectacle of Reform's incompetence being laid bare in public while in government.
I try to care, and maybe I should, in a perfect world, but then I consider a never ending Green-Labour-Lib Dem alliance and conclude that Farage should mop up as much money from wherever he can, if it means getting rid of the Uniparty. He could link up with a Columbian cartel if it gets rid of that lot, for all I care.
I agree. I don't care either. All political parties bend the rules and corruption is clearly rife especially those representing the Gaza 'independent' vote and the Greens. One has to fight fire with fire. But there are too many who will not like it, and therefore will not vote for Reform or Restore (cut from the same but different cloth if you get my meaning).
I do wonder, my job is not in politics, but I know the rules in my own industry. If you’re in the politics industry like Nigel and the rest of the staff of Reform then they should know how it all works and what and what not to do to keep their job and move the party forward.
It’s all so frustrating that at the top of party there’s just rank amateurism. They should know that the press will be after them. It should be drilled into everyone to do nothing that gives wolves the opportunity to attack.
With this dire Labour government there is a massive open goal that a centre right/ right wing party could just stroll with the ball at their feet into. Instead they are actually at their own goal trying to score there and being pretty good at it.
It's entirely possible that the resulting vacuum will push the reaction further to the right....and that your lot....the centre right..../social democratic respectable people....will fuck up as they have done so well in the past and in Germany....and you might, in the end, wish Farage had been successful ..and of course he still might be. But either way, your crowing is premature
Why is this any worse than the PM and his whole cabinet accepting undeclared gifts and even gifts for his wife? Why is it worse than the PM appointing a man who was “besties” with one of the worse paedophiles the world has known when that information was in the public domain? Why is it worse than Tory cash for questions or covid contracts for mates like Baroness Mone? I haven’t even mentioned Labour’s involvement in Pakistani rape gangs and their bloc votes. The answer is it isn’t. It isn’t as bad as the Labour and Conservative indiscretions but obviously it’s worse because it’s the insurgents Farage and Reform. Why don’t you try acting like the seriously political commentator you could be Pete and swim against the tide here and expose these double standards? We the people are stuffed. More and more I think my mark on the ballot paper next election will be an expression of rage rather than a vote.
