There is a lot to be said about Starmer’s conference speech - which was essentially a declaration of war - in which he said, referring to people of my political persuasion, “If you say or imply people cannot be English or British because of the colour of their skin.
Sending love from the US. You would be welcomed by the majority here. But I’m grateful that you are fighting for England which is where many of my ancestors were from and where we got most of our history and traditions. Praying for you and your wife and your country.
Pete, take care of yourself. They are vindictive in the extreme. In terms of arrest powers, it seemed to go completely unnoticed that in 2005 (IIRC) Labour replaced our Arrestable Offences and Offences with a Power of Arrest with something new. ANY offence now came with general arrest conditions and this particular condition would say Labour through the centre if you cut it in half. Drum roll please….. a police officer could arrest “for the prompt and effective investigation of the offence.” What does that mean? It means whatever the police want it to mean. This was the turning point where the ducks were put in a row for Britain to become a police state.
I understand your distress and the difficulty this brings you in returning to the discomfort of dealing with the problem but you absolutely must. The police are a predatory organisation and any predator trades off their attack on their victim against the risk that they will suffer injury. The best response to any attention from plod is to fight like your life depends on it. Throw the kitchen sink at them if you must. Have someone blur your partner from the video but you absolutely must discredit them with the truth and force them to face the consequences of, particularly, US disapproval. Never try to reason with them nor expect reasonableness.
I think it works. I've always thought of myself as British, but not English, as I'm half Polish on my mother's side. This definition shows why my instincts were correct. So it at least plays well to my inherant confirmation bias!😂
This is horrendous, the police appear to have exceeded their authority, I hope you sue them successfully.

They had no business arresting you in ANY way.
Here's a useful definition of Englishness and Britishness that I found on The Pimlico Journal.

Anyway, give it a look . . . .
