So the die is cast. We're not going to vote our way out of this clusterfuck; economic collapse (probably hyperinflationary) looks inevitable. Prepare accordingly

I understand where you're coming from. I lost patience with many of the Online Right and their livestreams, podcasts and "edgy" Discord groups some years ago and I was deeply embedded in their world for a while. But it became all about clickbait, appeasing American viewers and how to advocate for authoritarianism without actually saying that and coming up with ever more convoluted euphemisms and jargon. James Lindsay is right in one respect when he accuses many of the Online Right of using the same tactics and mindset of the Left.

In 2024 I adopted the policy of voting for who I regarded as the best candidate and not along any party lines. If the goal is to have better quality MPs I think this is a good way to go. We need the hangers on, the yes-men, the diversity hires and the PPE graduates to be purged from Parliament.

2024-25 was my time being politically homeless but now in 2026 I've found people who want to discuss politics beyond just jargon, attention seeking and slop announcements. They care about detail and thought out policy. I'm not talking about a political party but people, individuals and in groups. I'm talking about.....grassroots Conservatives. There. I've said it.

I'd be interested to talk to you about that. I'd like to start proper conversations going around the country on how to turn things around, slowly, patiently, thoughtfully, responsibly.

Just subscribed to your substack and will check it out when I have more time.

I have moved on from the Dissident/Online Right because all they do in their Discord groups and podcasts is talk abstracts and current problems without ever being practical. So it's all Spengler, Evola, Schmitt, pining for either a Lord of the Rings Shire or Starship Troopers World because focussing on an issue and coming up with ways to fix or improve it is too much hard work and all these groups have a few Doomers in them telling everyone it's all pointless to try making improvements.

On X I followed a Conservative account because they made some points that made sense and then I was drawn into their circle and found the kind of practical people I'd been looking for. I don't know them well enough yet to work out whether they're the real deal or not. An example of how they think in terms of what to do came with an issue that cropped up this morning. The Labour government have drawn up a 10 year plan to ban most breeds of dog and it's not just poorly bred ones with medical problems of XL Bullies, we're talking Spaniels, Terriers and Beagles! So this group have decided to take action, contact MPs to drum up support, get the Kennel Club, RSPCA, dog owner's associations and dog owners in general to defeat this plan. So an issue identified, an achievable goal set, a plan to drum up support and a drive to do it.

Regarding voting. I like some of the ideas of Robert A. Heinlein. I think we give the vote to people far too easily. One should not be able to choose the control of a country simply by existing. A kind of voluntary service to the state should be required in order to be a citizen and able to vote. It could be either in the military or in other domains. Also a test should be applied as to knowledge of basic economics, geography, history and civics before the vote is given. People should be at least 21 years of age before being able to apply for the vote, because the brain is not fully formed in most people until that age, and the emotional trauma of the teenage years should be behind you. Of course, education must include the aforementioned subjects. Block or tribal voting should be abolished. This would eliminate most of the Muslim vote. Being a Muslim should result in automatic disqualification from voting. This is because the whole basis of their ideology is antithetical to western civilisation.

Totally agree, it should be harder to vote, not easier. A blank sheet of paper in the private voting booth where the voter writes, in clear and correct English, the name of the candidate that their research has indicated is the best. No party labels. No postal votes. No community languages.

What was the X account? If they're taking action rather than simply moaning online they're likely to be the right sort of people.

I can't believe Labour wants to ban dogs - although I also can believe that.

"I'm not going to vote for a shouty nihilist who thinks everything is too broken to fix, and isn't interested in working out how to fix things" lol

However, I do think you might be onto something here. Is it unfixable, or just there's no one yet who can fix it? Both. That means things will likely get a lot worse before they can get better - which puts us on the same page.

Donna Rachel's avatar

Things are always fixable given a long enough time frame. Just as the good times never last, neither do the bad. The question is only how long we'll suffer in squalour before someone has the bright idea to do something about it. It took the Russians about 70 years. Will we wait that long?

I think the problem here is it goes beyond the political, we're on generation 2-3 now of people who expect the State to give them free stuff and wipe their arses. The full unraveling of that matrix would involve turkeys voting for Christmas on a bunch of levels, at the risk of sounding even bleaker than you I suspect we are too far gone.

When the inevitable happens we want a 'left wing' governement to be in possession of the ball, the best chance we've got is if they actually have to take the blame.

Niall Warry's avatar

I know I'm repeating myself but for 10 yeas I've been saying things will have to get worse before we start to build again as all the indications are, as predicted by Sir John Pasha Glubb, that in The Age of Decadence the only way is down to the bottom.

Then as you say as the country grinds to a halt, literally as the lights go out, it is better that the Left carry the can and become so discredited that even a woke transgender feminist lesbian realises that we need the Right to sort the country out and get it back on its feet!

GregB's avatar

It might take yet another 10 years, but with the debt balloon inflating, like it is, I doubt it.

Interesting times!

No matter how “bad” the right is, the Left is much much worse.

Niall Warry's avatar

But we need the left to crash and burn first.

The Martyr's avatar

How bad do you want it to get? For far too many lefties the answer will always be “raise taxes and spend more” even when there’s no one left to pay taxes. I hear the argument about letting the UK crash and burn which may take longer than 2029 but why would the left give up? They’ll keep doubling down. Listen to Miliband.

Niall Warry's avatar

I Don't want it to get worse but history teaches us it will so better that the Left carry the can.

BobAllen's avatar

Already did. Remember Biden and Harris? Cannot crash and burn any more than that do nothing gruesome twosome.

I always thought you were a cup half empty person.

But your declaring that a Tory MP might fulfil your needs for a Parliamentary representative makes you a cup half full person.

Albeit the cup being full of over proof hooch which has been lowered by your over imbibing, leaving you half cut.

Any half deserving MP would have upped sticks from Labour and Tory’s years ago.

Pete’s MP is also mine, an affable bloke but thick as mince, as my exchanges with him during the Tyranny revealed. I want more than that. He’s doing well on the fat jabs though, no longer the bloater that he became in office.

Donna Rachel's avatar

I'm thinking of running as an independent. My local MP is Mark Pritchard. I've never seen him do anything remotely useful, and his office rarely replies to emails.

Is there any harm in some competition on the right for our votes? Come the hour, we will all vote tactically for the person who is best equipped to stop the red tide and subject thereto, the least unconservative.
