All of democracies are bordering on failed states. Multiple causes include: compromise by foreign and domestic interests; voter cynism; entrenched unaccountable elites; bloated states with no corrective feedback mechanisms. It will end in civil war or vassalage. Or worse, just never end.
Throw into that an increasingly crime ridden and dangerous society- whether it’s from shoplifting, mentally ill people loose on the streets until they kill, third world rapists, or the sneaking suspicion that a lot of the shops on the high street are money laundering fronts.
I think what comes after will be different. Best case is we have to live in a much more authoritarian society, with fewer freedoms, and a heavy handed state holding the ring between different groups. Hopefully this could be maybe a society where we at least have some kind of a market in employment and business.
Worst case scenario balkanised, demoralised South African style country - horrendous crime, corruption and declining public services and infrastructure.
Anglo-Saxon freedoms aren’t coming back. We gave them away for a mess of pottage.
Read the long post I've just posted a few minutes ago but I agree our ingrained problems, after 50 odd years of failed left of centre governments, will only be addressed by tough no nonsense actions and the opposition from the woke liberal elite, Green types, the Unions and generally the faint-hearted inclined to 'suicidal empathy' will be excessive.
You’re at the stage of needing to attain international pariah status to fix the issues - unless all of the west turns hard right at the same time. Part of me thinks you’d need a Pinochet style regime for 10 years to restabilise things sufficiently but none of us really has the stomach for that do we.
This is already the final government. This is the one that will end us as a coherent society. Look at the opposition. A crazy green one. One led by a Nigerian. The limp dems. Farage the charlatan. There will be no failing Reform one. He will be scuppered by the establishment before he gets anywhere near winning.
Our chances were pissed away by the last 3 Tory governments. They failed us at every opportunity. The idea that a real conservative government is waiting in the wings is a fantasy.
«Our chances were pissed away by the last 3 Tory governments. They failed us at every opportunity.»
Between 2010 and 2021 house prices and rents *boomed* and that was a tremendous success for millions of families of "Middle England" property incumbents who are the core constituency of the Conservatives.
The Conservatives only started failing their members and voters starting 2022 when property prices went flat; rents still kept increasing robustly thanks to the Boriswave but most "Middle England" voters are occupiers not landlords.
We can’t even have Martial Law as our army’s too small. Unlike Pete I see Reform as a step in the right direction but we’ll probably just keep bumbling on with things getting worse until there’s an Islamic takeover. They only need to be 20% of the population with their very activist base.
The Labour and Tory parties are so hollowed out as to be vacuums.
That leaves the Greens and Lib Dem’s to fight out the next election.
That’s Zaks Tooting Front v Ed Daveys Barnum Circus.
Is this seriously the prediction for the future general election?
I’m all for being realistic - so why doesn’t someone take a really good look at where the parties are and predict where they will be in a general election in 1 year, 2 years and 3 years?
Reform appears to me, being born in the UK, but now an Australian citizen, as a kind of practical joke on the indigenous British. Their candidate for the Central Southsea ward of Portsmouth is a student at the University from Bangladesh. From AI: “Central Southsea ward in Portsmouth features a diverse, young population with a median age around 35. The ward is predominantly White (82.13%), with significant Asian/Asian British (8.36%) and Mixed (3.98%) populations. It has a high proportion of never-married residents and a strong, diverse cultural mix”. How on Earth can a serious political party propose such a candidate who, as far as I know is a Bangladeshi, and not even born in the UK or a British citizen! Farage is now off his tree. It looks to me like Restore is the only chance for the indigenous British to take their country back. I’d be very grateful if someone could explain what is going on there?
Yusef has had plenty of exposure, and those with only slight interest in politics may find him more impressive than Farage.
I guess the anger that previous generation immigrants that have integrated well must feel probably matches that of the indigenous population. At this stage Reform does seem the only outlet for them.
MSM will continue to be the prime teacher for most of the population, I think they don't know how to handle Yusef, their usual far right racist tropes looks stupid when targeted against a Sri Lanken parented Muslim millionaire who actually has more patriotism than themselves.
I've written before about living in the sixth and final stage of a nations life cycle, The Age of Decadence, as described by Sir John 'Pasha' Glubb in in his 1975 essay 'The Fate of Empires' and as he pointed out ,on page one, that the only lesson of history is we never learn from it there so there is worse to become before we recover.
As to recovering the government that will succeed is one obviously with a right of centre mandate given the last 50 years of a failed left wing agenda. What was it Mrs Thatcher said "The trouble with socialism is they always in the end run out of other people's money".
My final point, made so well to me recently by Pete's father Dr Richard North of his blog Turbulent Times, is that the success of the government that is going to start the long hard and slow process of turning our country around all depends on them winning a majority based on a clear well set our mandate.
Nigel's Reform Party will fail because they have no detailed policies just populist rhetoric so should they come to power and start to implement the policies, that are actually necessary to solve our ingrained problems, they will encounter serious opposition especially from those who would argue they had no mandate for those tough actions and sadly the opposition would have a point.
The government we need must win power based on a clear well set out Manifesto as only then would they be able to govern and take head on the opposition they would encounter as they would be able to reply we have a clear democratic mandate for policies X Y and Z.
Lastly the next election will solve very little and sadly while Rupert Lowe's Restore Britain is on the right track it again has no detailed policies and he has currently made clear if he doesn't win in 2029 or before he will bow out.
Our future will be determined by the election after next.
There is a lot to sort out unfortunately and it will take a government with a clear right of centre mandate and a big majority to turn the tide.
If one doesn't remain optimistic we might as well jet off to Dignitas and of course we need the people to get behind these six reforms. https://harrogateagenda.org.uk/ to improve our democracy and governance to turn our politicians into our servants rather than being our masters.
Fully agree. We have no time for these dreamers who talk about the election after next. By then it will be too late unless voter reform to give only people born here or fully naturalised a vote.
Whilst Rupert Lowe and Restore have set the right attitude, direction and objectives for me, they are still a long way from being a viable party to succeed. The advisory and policy people he has writing for him are all capable but he needs to nurture some more heavyweight players who are likely to take over from him after the next election.
Things will get worse before they get better. Only consolations are that we have a year or two of fiscal and infrastructure failure to concentrate minds. Reform are ‘on notice’ and need to up their game and will find winners (as well as losers) form their experience in local government. Reform will also compete with the Tories for credibility. We have to have some grounds for optimism. Anyway, it’s a lovely evening and the countryside has never looked more glorious.
No as parties are already coalitions the trouble is the two main parties are so bad others are growing. The solution is to keep FPTP and get back to two strong principled parties one to the right of the other or one to the left of the other!!
...and then you woke up. The disgusting PTB and their (very largely foreign) paymasters will not let that happen, and there are enough greedy/stupid/brain-dead/foreign people now in our country to ensure same old same old. Perhaps under a different name.
Do you mean “Pass the Buck”? Or something else? There are multiple versions of the initialism “PTB”. I agree that it’s unlikely at this stage to find any way out of the situation the UK is in today. Maybe you will have a civil war?
PTB = Powers That Be [who often do pass the buck, that's true :o) ]
Sometimes I dread that civil war will end up being the only option available to us. It's disgraceful that this is (self?)-inflicted on us by our politicians.
Just the ideal read to blight an otherwise gloriously beautiful Spring day.

Very true and there is worse to come before we rise again - it's what history teaches us.
I think what comes after will be different. Best case is we have to live in a much more authoritarian society, with fewer freedoms, and a heavy handed state holding the ring between different groups. This is how all empires end - first with a bang, and then with a whimper. It's been going on since the end of WW II.
We’re doomed Mr Mannering, doomed
I think you'll find it was Mr Mainwaring. But we are still doomed all the same.

I’m a bit perplexed.
Reform haven’t got proper policies.
Neither has Restore.
The Labour and Tory parties are so hollowed out as to be vacuums.
That leaves the Greens and Lib Dem’s to fight out the next election.
That’s Zaks Tooting Front v Ed Daveys Barnum Circus.

That happened as soon as this treacherous Labour Party got voted in by a minority vote share.
Yep but it’s not over yet.Just like the crusades it will end well and traitors like Starmer will find it won’t end well for them
I think everyone believes that Reform is Farage and vice versa.
So what happens when Nigel flits off?
When will that be?
Will he step down or will he be pushed?
Both Tommy and Andrew (Bridgen) have referred to Nigel’s private life - even Dan Wootton seemed to be enjoying a joke that Andrew was also enjoying?
What if there is a question mark regarding Nigel?
What if Nigel wants to move on/out?
This rumour of a rumour isn’t going away.
Is Nigel a duck paddling furiously?
Yusef has had plenty of exposure, and those with only slight interest in politics may find him more impressive than Farage.

I think the way to handle Yusuf was demonstrated by Rupert Lowe. Don’t take any of his shenanigans and call him out.

Our future is determined by current demographics: 40% of junior school pupils are Third Worlders.
There is a lot to sort out unfortunately and it will take a government with a clear right of centre mandate and a big majority to turn the tide.

If first past the post is the problem, is proportional representation the solution? Can't see it myself.
