According to The Times, British ministers have won the backing of more than a dozen countries to reform the European Convention of Human Rights as governments across the continent search for ways to curb illegal migration.
"and appeasement of Islamism has done nothing to secure the Moslem bloc vote"
Why do you write "Islamism" not "Islam"? Islamism is an integral part of Islam.
It’s Islam, Not Islamism
Islamism (political Islam) is an integral part of Islam. Curious that some people, such as Nigel Farage criticise Islamism but refuse to criticise Islam itself!
The Times story was plainly planted by Nick Thomas-Symonds, the Europe relations minister, prominently pictured in it. He would have us believe that he and Starmer went to Copenhagen to talk about the ECHR.
The Copenhagen summit of EU leaders, and a side-summit of the European Political Commmunity, concerned the alleged Russian threat to European security. According to The Standard, Starmer promised changes to the asylum system before setting out and announced on arrival that "We’re certainly discussing illegal migration" but, due to the Manchester murders, left after lunch having met nobody of importance.
In other words, the summit was never about the ECHR, migration was not discussed and this whole story is Labour spin. By the way, note "modernise". Does Starmer really imagine that echoing Phoney Tony will win him hearts and minds?
The threat of leaving the ECHR has stirred other EU nations to act to amend and reform it...and Von Der Leyen isn't weighing in on the argument either. If the EU had taken the UK seriously about Brexit then they might have agreed to more concessions to the UK and stopped the plans contained in the Five President's Report for full EU integration on every level. But the drunk Juncker and the insane zealot Verhofstadt would not be budged one iota. It's most likely those 16 EU nations are also suffering bad verdicts from the ECHR and have had enough.
As for Labour; it's pretty much finished but what replaces it is more terrifying. A Green/Islamist/Communist bloc that the British political system had been very good at keeping away from Westminster until recently. At the moment most people aren't eco loons or communists so the noise they're creating won't translate into many votes or constituencies outside of those which are majority Muslim migrants. But none of us can be complacent about the rise of this movement and if Reform are going to be the major force in 2029 will they be capable enough and smart enough to deal with the threat?
The changes mentioned are minor and cosmetic and will make no difference so long as the law continues to be applied by a Marxist judiciary and the precedents made earlier (binding in the common law) remain applicable.
Good article, thank you.

I don't believe any of this.

Constitutional reform may be the first thing that comes. Riddibg ourselves of all Blair’s rubbish
British ministers? Labour politicians helping ‘improve’ the ECHR?
That fills me with confidence, doesn’t it comfort you too?
I am sure the ECHR, with the help of our political classes will be even more of a disaster than before.
The ECHR is even more of a liability than I thought previously.
Ehat better things do we have to do but save our bloody people from immigration annihilation? Pray tell. Civil war awaits is if nothing is done
